Vladimir Iskrov Brings Wheelchair Basketball Expertise to Sofia Coaching Seminar

Announce that Vladimir Iskrov, a distinguished basketball coach from Sofia, Bulgaria, will be leading upcoming coaching seminar as part of the Basketball Inclusive Games, funded by the Erasmus Sport program under the auspices of the EU.

Early Career:

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Vladimir Iskrov began his basketball journey at the age of 12 with the “Levski” basketball club. During his time with the club, he won a championship title and secured several runner-up and third-place finishes in youth championships. He was also a member of one of the most successful national youth teams of Bulgaria.

Coaching Education:

Vladimir pursued his coaching education at the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski”, where he earned both a coaching diploma and a degree in physical education. Additionally, he completed studies in kinesitherapy and obtained a master’s degree in sports psychology. His master’s thesis eventually developed into a doctoral dissertation focused on analyzing group dynamics and performance in basketball. His research explored how team climate, cohesion, collective efficacy, and leadership impact athletic success.

Advanced Training:

Alongside his education in Bulgaria, Vladimir completed the prestigious FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate, one of the top coaching courses in Europe. In 2015, he became the first Bulgarian to participate in the International Coaching Apprenticeship in Basketball program, which allowed him to spend 45 days as part of the basketball program at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, USA.

Professional Experience:

Over the past decade, Vladimir has balanced his theoretical knowledge with practical coaching experience. He spent five years working as a coach with the Levski basketball club, where he was tasked with developing basketball in the city of Gabrovo. With the Gabrovo team, Chardafon Orlovets, he achieved significant success, including a runner-up finish in the junior category and a bronze medal in the youth category. Following this, he received an offer to work in Ireland as the head coach of the North Atlantic Basketball Academy (N.A.B.A).

International Basketball Camp:

Upon returning to Bulgaria, Vladimir leveraged his international experience and connections to establish the International Basketball Camp. The camp’s primary goal is to provide opportunities for young, talented basketball players to develop their skills abroad. The camp has attracted numerous prominent coaches from the USA and Europe who come to Bulgaria to scout and train basketball talent.

Wheelchair basketball:

He has extensive experience in coaching and developing wheelchair basketball in Bulgaria. For many years, he coached the Bulgarian national team and BKHU Levski, leading them to multiple championship titles in the Bulgarian Wheelchair Basketball Championship. As the Chairman of the Balkans Wheelchair Basketball League (BWBL), a league that has made a great contribution to the development of wheelchair basketball in the Balkans.

Personal Life:

Vladimir successfully balances his coaching career with his personal life. He married in 2013 and became a proud father of a daughter and son.
