The Basketball Inclusive Games (BIG) project reached its significant conclusion with a final meeting held in Sofia, Bulgaria, bringing together esteemed figures from the basketball world alongside representatives from all partner organizations. This gathering marked the culmination of a collaborative journey aimed at fostering inclusivity in basketball, with a special emphasis on wheelchair basketball.
The meeting was honored by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Petr Tucek, Secretary General of IWBF Europe, Kosta Iliev, National Federations and Sports Senior Manager at FIBA and the individual responsible for wheelchair basketball within the organization, and Carmen Tocală, President of the Romanian Basketball Federation, Vice President of FIBA, member of the FIBA Executive Committee, and part of the FIBA Central Board. Their participation underscored the significance of the BIG project and its role in promoting inclusive practices in the sport.
Representatives of all partner organizations came together to review the project’s progress and achievements. During the discussions, the group reflected on the extensive work carried out over the project’s duration, including training programs, educational materials, and initiatives. Partner organizations shared their experiences and insights, showcasing the power of collaboration in driving change and inclusivity. Discussions also included strategies to sustain and build upon the project’s momentum, ensuring its lasting impact on the basketball community.
The BIG project has proven to be a vital step in uniting the basketball community around a shared vision of inclusion. The final meeting not only celebrated the progress achieved but also reinforced the collective commitment to making basketball accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of physical ability.
